Surfing Lifeguards

Hosted by Marine First Responders

Marine First Responders respects the marine environment and its community. We are dedicated to minimizing the risk and maximizing safety in the water through water safety education offering the Treasure Coast Jr. Lifeguard Summer Camps and Surf Lifesaving competition events. Marine First Responders’ specialized training and education is paramount for anyone who spends time on the water, with the skills to stay safe — and to act as a first responder to aid someone in danger. With the belief that more prevention means fewer rescues, our community will learn to identify and assess risk in the ever-changing marine environment, acquire safety skills and learn advanced rescue techniques and life-saving procedures at our surf lifesaving camps . Paramedics, nurses, and doctors can not save people without the assistance of first responders. With training from Marine First Responders, you can learn to be an essential  link in the chain of survival.

Marine First Responders (MFR) www.marinefirstresponders.com are a licensed training provider for the American Red Cross (ARC). MFR follow and instruct from the ocean surf lifesaving guidelines of the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) and ARC.

Surf's up at Junior Lifeguard Camp

“Surf beach lifeguards must be intimately familiar with waves and wave action so that they can effectively intervene when the powerful surf overwhelms swimmers, surfers, boaters and others. It is strongly recommended that all surf beach lifeguards spend extensive periods in activities such as board surfing, body surfing, and paddling rescue boards. It allows lifeguards to learn to read waves, anticipate when they will break, and use the same forces that endanger swimmers to quickly rescue them. -United Surf Lifesaving Association/Open Water Lifesaving 3rd edition

At camp there will be a daily educational progression on how waves are created, how they travel and how they react to local topography cause breaking waves and rip currents. Junior’s will learn how to read waves and the surf line up. After lunch everyday juniors will enjoy extensive period  in board surfing, body surfing and paddling boarding.
