Attention: On Monday there is plenty of activities and water time, however we ask juniors to be patient with the orientation day. There is more instruction this day than the rest of the week. This also gives every junior time acclimate to the hot and physically demanding beach environment. “Orientation” Monday 

  • Morning workout: Warm-up. Swim (assessment) Run (base line.)
  • Beach and ocean orientation: How waves are created.
  • Lifeguard skill: Situational awareness exercise morning board and USLA Flag system
  • First-aid: hyperthermia and sun screen application
  • Surf Survival: Entering water safely and negotiating the shore break. Spinal injury “prevention”
  • Competition: Flags
  • Stations: Surfing, pro

Surf Tuesdays

  • Morning workout: Warm -up Swim/Run
  • Ocean/Beach orientation: anatomy of rip current and fixed rip currents 
  • Lifeguards skill: Rescue’s with a rescue buoy AKA “Burnside Buoy,” “Can”, Torp
  • First-aid:
  • Surf Survival: Leash removal
  • Competition: Rescue race
  • Stations: Surfing, prone paddling and ocean swimming.

“WaterPark” Wednesday


  • Morning workout: pool swim technique (head down with alternating breathing) 
  • Orientation: Fixed rip currents, pool and water park
  • Lifeguard Skill: Rescue tube rescue and High Dive (modified pier jump.) 
  •  First-aid: CPR/AED
  • Surf Survival:Tread water, float on back, equalizing
  • Competition: Tread water, swim relay.
  • Stations: Water park, pool and high dive
  • Modifications will be made for

“Top Guard” Thursday  

  • Morning workout: swim (box)/run
  • Ocean/Beach Orientation:
  • Lifeguard skill: Put it all together in line-pull with resuscitation race
  • Competition: iron guard
  • First-aid: Marine Life and sting treatment
  • Surf survival:
  • Stations: Surfing, prone paddling and ocean swimming.


Get "Tubed" on “Fun Day” Friday

  • Morning workout: bridge run
  • River Orientation
  • Lifeguard skill: board rescue roll
  • First-aid: Bleeding control and tourniquets 
  • Surf Survival: Board roll
  • Competition:Board race relay
  • Stations: Bouncer "Bob"and Launcher, Tube time on the Wave Runner.
  • Modifications will be made for this day at Jupiter Camp
